The Buzz Intro Interview

Ike Avelli

1. Why should people see your show?

People should see "50 Shades of Gay: Takes On The 80s" for a high-energy, nostalgic, and entertaining night of adult comedy, music, and drag. This 2026 version features, among other things, classic songs/movie samples, parodies of 1980s music, audience participation and giveaways.

2. What about festivals intrigues you? And why the Atlanta Fringe?

Not only am I excited about performing, but I also look forward to seeing the incredible performances that are lined up coming from all over the world for the supersized Fringe this year! Very proud to be included in a Festival that supports diversity and stage for all to feel safe.

3. What inspired you to create this?

I was primarily inspired to create an adult variety show, 50 Shades of Gay, by a television trailer for the movie 50 Shades of Grey that I saw in February 2015.

While planning a special performance for New York City Pride in June 2015, I wanted a title and concept that would "pop". When I saw the advertisement for the mainstream film, I immediately realized that "50 Shades of Gay" would be a perfect play on words. Within a week of seeing the trailer, I had outlined the show and written several parody numbers and cast it!
