Dreality

Han Luo

BOGART, GA

After years of performing at TEDx events, marketing campaigns, and universities like Harvard and MIT, Han created his one-hour show, Dreality, a term he coined to explore the boundary between dream and reality, featuring his best magic acts polished not only by over a decade of practice, but also by his rigorous research on magic when he was a PhD candidate in Theatre Studies. You will be invited to not only witness but also be part of miracles like predicting the future, restoring torn everyday objects, and experiencing impossible yet inevitable coincidences. Come to experience mystery, laughter, and pure astonishment!

The Buzz Intro Interview

Han/Creator

1. Why should people see your show?

You will be invited to not only witness but also be part of miracles like predicting the future, restoring torn everyday objects, and experiencing impossible yet inevitable coincidences. Come to experience mystery, laughter, and pure astonishment! A unforgettable unique memory is guaranteed!

2. What about festivals intrigues you? And why the Atlanta Fringe?

The fact that both the audience and the performers are invited to submerse in a variety of performing arts to not only enjoy but also create unforgettable moments intrigues me! There is always something for everyone. If you are not a fan of something, pick a different show! There is so much readily available during these two weeks! Atlanta Fringe is one of the most experienced organizers that will guarantee to deliver it!

3. What inspired you to create this?

Dream and reality seem to be a contradictory binary: if it is a dream, it is not real, or vice versa. People usually use them as two mutually exclusive terms that can be put together with the help of “either... or... ” However, they also often intertwine like a spiral. On the one hand, when we are having a series of unrelated random events happening in our head during sleep, which is called dream, they feel so real to us such that we may even wake up laughing, crying, or panicking, though most of the time none of these events makes any sense. On the other hand, when something incredible happens to us, it feels so unreal that we think we may be in a dream, be it meeting an idol, welcoming a newborn baby, or receiving an admission letter from a dream school. I created the show to prompt my audience to replicate this feeling of uncertainty, to invite them to oscillate between illusion/imagination and reality, and to provoke their thoughts about what is real. Experiencing the show, they will ask, is this real, or am I just having a dream.
