The Buzz Intro Interview

You Should Feel Bad (YSFB)

1. Why should people see your show?

To help fix our relationship! Obviously! We're counting on you to join us in exploring what it means to forcibly keeps a relationship alive - and what harm can come of that.

And this year, You Should Feel Bad is trying something new with this one! We're bringing you our typically uncomfortable tragicomedy style, while immersing audiences in Jordan & Taylor's world. Beyond immersion, the audience is going to play a crucial role in this one, constructing the "friend dates" that form the backbone of the show.

So if you want to see how relationships fall apart (and how we try to put them back together), be a relationship coach, and maybe even find some catharsis of your own, Expiration Date is your...date!

*You Should Feel Bad cannot be held responsible for the consequences of taking a real-life date to Expiration Date.

2. What about festivals intrigues you? And why the Atlanta Fringe?

Festivals are a creatively engaging way to bridge the gap between regional-scale performance and artists who might not be able to perform without Fringe. At the various Fringe festivals You Should Feel Bad has been to, we've seen so many shows that, quite frankly, wouldn't exist if produced solely on the basis of traditional commercial viability. And wouldn't you know it, fewer barriers to creation results in more interesting art!

3. What inspired you to create this?

Unfortunately, an undefined two-thirds of YSFB knows all too well what it's like to feel cornered in a relationship, even if it was unintentional. Initially, Expiration Date came from a bit (as all great dark comedies do) wherein two exes find an old date coupon-book with no expiration date - see where this is going?

Expiration Date is our (hopefully humorous and careful) attempt at tackling the mess of broken relationships: can they ever be fixed? Is it worth fixing them, especially if the fix causes more harm? The reality is, we all have the capacity to hurt those we love. What Expiration Date explores is what happens when one party refuses to let go.
