The Buzz Intro Interview

High Deductibles -- we each took on some questions!

1. Why should people see your show?

Alex Devilliers: Have you ever wondered what it would be like to see a bunch of formally trained clowns do improv? It's absurd. I don't know what we expected, but it's absurd--and a freaking delight! Come see some of Atlanta's finest clowning arts performers team up with a choice selection of Atlanta-based improvisers to create a uniquely bizarre improvised spectacle of a comedy variety show. Short-form, long-form, and a dedicated clown huzzah!

2. What about festivals intrigues you? And why the Atlanta Fringe?

Daniel Dames: The Atlanta Fringe Festival is known for its open and experimental nature, which we think offers us the perfect creative freedom to make something unconventional and exciting (at least to us anyway). The Atlanta Fringe is also a great opportunity to gain exposure and grow our network within the creative community here in Atlanta and beyond.

3. What inspired you to create this?

Alex Devilliers: Clowning is punk rock comedy theater and improv is Top 40. What if those worlds collided? In improv-saturated scenes like LA and NY, comedy clowning has exploded in popularity, and 4 of our 6 performers have taken the dive into the classical art of clowning, proudly ahead of the curve. We wanted to celebrate the joyful absurdity of clowning by shoehorning it into the familiarity (and relative coherence) of an improv comedy theater show. Why? Because it's fun as hell, and joy is contagious.
