How I Learned (Not) To Drive

Jesse Bradley-Amore

Winter Park, Fl

In “How I Learned (NOT) To Drive,” Jesse Bradley-Amore takes on a uniquely Florida problem: surviving without a car. After childhood trauma kept him from driving for decades, his wife delivers an ultimatum – get a license or get divorced. Mixing sharp comedy with brutal honesty, Bradley-Amore proves that facing your fears is harder than parallel parking. Directed by Padraic Lillis.

Jesse Bradley-Amore is a writer, cartoonist, and (occasional) improviser based out of Winter Park, FL. His stories have been featured on RISK! and The Volume Knob. His comics have been published in Oyez Review and Action, Spectacle.

The Buzz Intro Interview

Jesse Bradley-Amore

1. Why should people see your show?

It's a story about overcoming trauma and fear. It makes folks laugh and maybe cry a little. Overcoming obstacles is something we all face. Sometimes, we need to hear how we overcome those things from others to feel like we can keep going.

2. What about festivals intrigues you? And why the Atlanta Fringe?

This is my first solo show. I've never done any festivals before. This is not my first time in Atlanta as a performer. My first out-of-town poetry slam features were at Art Amok and Java Speaks. The fact this will be one of my very first Fringes as a solo performer is great. I love Atlanta and I hope folks here will love me and my show back.

3. What inspired you to create this?

I never thought I would ever drive. I spent over 31 years not driving, which is hard in Florida. I wanted to tell my story about how I overcame this great fear and hope it gives folks the push they need to overcome their greatest fears, too.
