1. Why should people see your show?
Maggie's Convent is a play about the artistic process. Margaret is trying to break the mold and achieve something that no woman, to her knowledge, has achieved before. She's ambitious, funny, dramatic, and just interesting to dissect as a character. I think people should see Maggie's Convent to be inspired to create, connect, and finish that draft! Maggie, William, and Caterina are all relatable in their own right and I hope audiences connect with them as much as we have.
2. What about festivals intrigues you? And why the Atlanta Fringe?
I was very lucky to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2023 and 2024. I was fresh out of college and I absolutely fell in love with the energy of fringe festivals and the variety of art they attract. Atlanta is my hometown and last year I volunteered at ATLFringe to see more shows for cheap and also maybe meet some cool people. I had a blast and told myself that I would enter the lottery in 2025 and...voila! Here we are!
3. What inspired you to create this?
Maggie's Convent began as my thesis project I completed my junior and senior year at Ohio University. I spent a year writing and researching and then a year producing, directing, and acting in a fully staged production (alongside some of my amazing friends). I was inspired by Margaret Cavendish's story the moment I read it. I am someone who longs to study and achieve many different things. So I was enamoured by the story of the philosopher, scientist, playwright, Duchess, and endlessly determined woman who refused to publish under a pseudonym in a time when that what the only way women's writing would be read. She challenged the idea that a woman was only an extension of her husband and envisioned a world in which women were able to pursue their dreams without the burden of forced marriage. In the 1600's, these ideas were often considered heresy! And that's what makes Maggie's story so fascinating.
