1. Why should people see your show?
With over 60 shows under it's belt over the last four years, Road Trip remains to be one of the most popular independent improv shows in Atlanta because of the show's energy. Highlighting various improvisers from different corners of the comedy community, Road Trip is all about the magic that ensues when we bring people together. The improv is based on authentic stories from an engaging storyteller and, like a road trip where you get to know someone super well, the audience gets to know the storyteller as well as watch in real time as strangers who have never played together in this way create magic. It's about connecting and bringing people together to share laughs under one roof.
Previous storytellers have been seen on shows like America's Got Talent, "Parks and Rec, " "Grace and Frankie, " Just for Laughs, "Animal Control, " ESPN, Dropout.TV, Conan, Wild 'N Out, Comedy Central, Late Night, "English Teacher, " and more!
You never know what famous or breakout star you're gonna see next at a Road Trip! Check out cast updates: @roadtripimprov
2. What about festivals intrigues you? And why the Atlanta Fringe?
Last year, I went to both the Atlanta and Edmonton Fringe for the first time to perform improv - one with Edgewood Avenue, an improv puppet variety show, and the other with Murder She Improvised. I love being surrounded by other artists. Everyone has a story to share, and watching and learning how people bring those stories to life is so inspiring. At a festival in particular, anywhere you turn, you get to experience a range of emotions from beautiful, impactful, hilarious, and groundbreaking performances and return to what connects us as humans - art, storytelling, and authenticity. Not to mention, the people you get to meet...it's just like getting injected with energy, inspiration, and all the best things in the world all in two weeks.
Being a part of two Fringes this last year empowered me to bring my own solo show (Always the Goat) to life, something I never thought I would do. Yet, somehow, over the course of a year, I was able to put the show up and have a sold out run with 5 shows at Dad's Garage, the largest improv theater in the Southeast. Now, because of the passion and success I have seen from other outstanding artists, I am a part of Fringe again with my improv baby and cannot wait to one day bring my solo show to Fringe. Fringe is an avenue for artists to reach their full potential and for audiences to see a range of artistic, powerful works. I am so honored to have Road Trip as a part of Atlanta Fringe this year and to watch all of the other works to get inspired once again!!
3. What inspired you to create this?
I had lived in Atlanta since 2017 performing in all of the improv theaters in some way, and started Road Trip in 2022 as a way to play, learn, and connect new and seasoned improvisers as well as act as a bridge between the standup and improv worlds (since I was involved in both for years). Because of the love of performance and the positive impact this show has had on individuals in the Atlanta improv scene, Road Trip has grown over the last four years into one of the most popular independent improv shows in Atlanta. It's incredibly rewarding to see a performer in the scene with so much talent, and give them the opportunity to perform on one of the biggest improv stages in Atlanta with a cast of people who are excited to celebrate and lift them up onstage no matter what. I love performing, community, and connecting people, and this show allows for all of those passions, in addition to learning and growing from all the different styles and perspectives each individual offers to the space. The audience always leaves with big smiles and hurt bellies, or so I've been told multiple times!
