Witch Cake

MerryCat Productions

Atlanta, GA

Witch Cake is a visceral, immersive horror play set in a dystopian neocolonial village. Six women stand accused of witchcraft—and you decide who burns and who is spared. Blending improvisation with haunting, movement-driven storytelling, each night’s judgment shifts the accused’s fate. Will you show mercy... or demand justice? In conversation with The Crucible and John Proctor is the Villain, Witch Cake reimagines the terrifying witch trial narrative through the eyes of the accused. Created by Melissa Simmons. Starring Nhadyne Banton Brown, Amer-Marie Woods, Wanyu Yang, Femmaeve MacQueen, Fiona Campbell, Juliet DeVette, and Katie Wickline.

The Buzz Intro Interview

Melissa Simmons - Founder

1. Why should people see your show?

Witch Cake offers a unique, immersive experience that places the audience at the center of a tense, high-stakes narrative. You’ll be drawn into a world of fear, suspense, and moral uncertainty, where the fate of those on trial is uncertain. As the tension builds, you’ll be left grappling with a haunting question: Who will survive, and who will be condemned? This experience will challenge your perceptions, provoke thought, and leave a haunting impression long after it’s over.

2. What about festivals intrigues you? And why the Atlanta Fringe?

Fringe festivals are great because artists are not beholden to any type of regulatory body - there are literally no rules!

3. What inspired you to create this?

Witch Cake is inspired by the need to examine history, challenge assumptions, and explore the darker side of human nature in a way that’s both engaging and thought-provoking. We wanted to create a show where we can confront these uncomfortable truths, while still being swept up in a visceral experience.
