ATLANTA FRINGE  x  FRINGE UNIVERSITY

CLASS OF 2025

Atlanta Fringe welcomes YOU to join us August 2025 for 14 days at the largest performing arts event in the world: Edinburgh Festival Fringe

-More than 4,000 registered shows and 300 venues, ranging from purpose-built proscenium theatres to repurposed castle ballrooms to a chair at the back of a bar

-Edinburgh Fringe attracts audience numbers equivalent to the Summer Olympic Games and the World Cup combined – and that’s every single year, not every four years

-The starting place for beloved favorites like SIX: The Musical, Urinetown, The King’s Speech, Baby Reindeer, Fleabag, Kim’s Convenience, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Rachel Weisz, and so many more

-All majors welcome! No matter what you’re here to learn, Fringe has got you covered:

  • Performing artists – so much to do and see, so much creative inspiration and motivation, and so many movers and shakers to meet!
    • And it’s not just theater: circus and clowning, physical theatre, dance, aerial, acrobats, magic and mentalism, burlesque and variety, stand-up, improv, and sketch comedy, solo shows, puppetry, site-specific and immersive work, and uncategorizable weirdness are all on offer
  • Arts administrators – looking to get into artist or stage management? Show production? Scheduling? Event planning? Donation drives? It’s all happening at Fringe!
  • Technicians and production designers – how do you design a compelling set or light plot when you only have 5-10 minutes to set up and 5-10 minutes to break down? How would you build a show that can be easily packaged to tour all over the world?
  • Data science majors – with 4,000 shows, there’s quite a lot of data to gather and analyze about international trends in the arts!
  • History majors – did you know the Edinburgh Fringe began in 1946? Since then, it’s spawned nearly 300 similar festivals – and tons of famous people + projects – worldwide!
  • Marketing majors – you haven’t seen marketing and promotion until you’ve seen 4,000+ shows’ worth of producers doing it all at the same time! How do you stand out? What gets you seen?
  • Not listed here? We still want you to come hang out! We’ll tailor an experience that makes sense for your course of study and interests.

Fringe Festival History

Back in 1947 in Edinburgh, Scotland, the biggest theater arts festival had a little brother named Fringe. The Fringe Festival allowed indie, underground, original theater companies and artists—amateurs and professionals alike—to showcase their work. Historically, Fringe festivals are all about being performance arts-centric, original, rapid-fire, uncensored, and easy to participate in. Most festivals try to get a good mix of local, national, and international talent, and AFF is no different.

Today, Fringe festivals are all over the world (Prague, Canada, Singapore, Australia, Ireland, Budapest) as well as many major cities in the United States (New York, Minneapolis, Hollywood, New Orleans, Chicago), and they are a tremendous hub for new, original, and exciting performance work.
