Show Title: Heart Ripped Out Twice And So Can You!
“When you tell your own story, no matter how unique it is, others will resonate with it if you are honest and vulnerable because as humans we experience the same feelings, just in different ways.”
- Why should people see your show?
Life is incredibly painful. The best way to talk about pain is by laughing. One audience member said, “You said all the things I’ve been thinking.” Another said I was more arresting than the baby of Amy Sedaris and Jane Lynch. And that person is a journalist so you should believe them.
- What about festivals intrigues you? And why the Atlanta Fringe?
Festivals are the absolute tits for an artist. Community, other peoples’ great art, sharing your own art. It’s a creative and love orgy, and it’s a place to push the envelope with surprising and risky material. I’m especially excited about Atlanta because its another arts hub like my home of Philly – there’s a huge diversity of work being made by terrific folks (I’ve known a few down there) so the audiences must be great.
- What inspired you to create this?
See the show and you’ll know. I say too much and I’ll spoil it for you.
- Life has been weird the last few years, to say the least. How has the “real world” affected the art you’re creating?
Although I never say it explicitly, it would be hard to leave not knowing that the show is autobiographical. My pandemic involved some unique and special shit that it has been amazing to share with others because while some particulars of my story are unique, the pain of being alive is universal. And it is amazing to be in a room and grieve and laugh about it together.
- What have you learned from working on your show so far?
When you tell your own story, no matter how unique it is, others will resonate with it if you are honest and vulnerable because as humans we experience the same feelings, just in different ways. I was so worried that I was navel gazing by writing about myself but it has resonated with a hugely diverse group of people and I could not be more humbled and overjoyed by that.
- A mysterious stranger asks to meet you and your cast and crew after loving your show. In your WILDEST DREAMS, who is it? (Bonus points if your mysterious stranger is an Atlanta celeb.)
Kanye West.
- Fringes are the place to really push the boundaries so we gotta ask: are you inviting your family to this show are “Hey, maybe sit this one out you guys…”
My family has seen this show and I think it was difficult for them in ways that it is not for people who don’t know me. But not because I masturbate a skeleton.
- Will your show change the world?
hahahahahahahaha that’s hilarious. YES
- AI: the death of our art form or just a new tool to create?
While I am a climate organizer fighting the fossil fuel apocalypse, I sometimes secretly long for the energy crisis to end our tech addictions. Please don’t tell anyone.
- We’re making an excellent Fringey Feelings playlist. Describe your show in two or three songs we can add to keep the jams flowing.
“Hurts Being Alive” by Down Time
and “Comfortably Numb” by Pink Floyd
